Greg is the author of eleven books, including novels, poetry, children’s stories and four investment books published by John Wiley & Sons and Palgrave Macmillan. He also served as editor-in-chief of the fifth edition of Pittsburgh: The Story of an American City, by Stefan Lorant (who died during the preparation of the book). Michael Hallett called the Pittsburgh book “a masterpiece that has yet to be surpassed.”
Greg was born in the tiny Ohio farming community of Mechanicsburg and did most of his growing up in in a dying mill town not unlike the one Matt Chandler lives in. He graduated from Dartmouth and Harvard Law, then served as a cop in the US Army. Over the course of his career he has practiced law with one of the country’s then largest law firms, run a family office for what was then the world’s wealthiest family, and founded his own wealth advisory business working with ultra-high net worth families.
Greg published his first poems before high school and studied poetry at Dartmouth with Richard Eberhart and Alexander Laing. While at Dartmouth he co-founded the college literary magazine, Paroles, and served as its inaugural Poetry Editor. He is a winner of the Academy of American Poets Prize and was runner up for the Eve of St. Agnes Award (Peter Viereck, Judge).
Greg’s four investment books were published between 2004 and 2020 by John Wiley & Sons and Palgrave Macmillan. Greg has been awarded the Thoughtleader of the Decade Prize by the Family Wealth Alliance. His popular Substack page is available at https://gregcurtis.substack.com.
Greg has devoted much of his career to service on nonprofit boards, including as chair of the boards of St. John’s College, The Investment Fund for Foundations (TIFF), and the Pittsburgh Foundation. He also serves as Vice Chair of the Board of United Educators Insurance Company and as the Independent Director of the US Steel and Carnegie Pension Fund.
Greg lives in Pittsburgh with his wife, Simin, and their cat, Gigi. He has six children (two girls and four boys, in that order) and – so far – seven grandchildren.
